Dev Blog 5: The Big Move!

Today marked a significant milestone in my game development journey as I transitioned from Unity to Construct 3. This switch enabled me to leverage the power of Construct 3's intuitive event system and its robust 2D capabilities. The day was filled with excitement and progress as I successfully imported the player and implemented key animations and mechanics.

My first task was to bring the player into the Construct 3 environment. Once accomplished, I focused on adding essential animations for the player, including idle, running, jumping, and shooting. These animations significantly enhanced the visual appeal of the game, making the character's actions more engaging and lifelike. Since I am new to game development, it was actually quite hard to do in Unity, but in Construct 3 it was a lot easier, NOT perfect but definitely easier.

Next, I addressed the player's sprite-flipping issue, ensuring that the character and the gun both faced the correct direction during movement. This fix led to smoother and more accurate gameplay, elevating the overall player experience. I also tackled the dashing mechanics. By optimizing the dash functionality within Construct 3, I was able to achieve fluid player movement and seamless transitions between different actions.

In summary, today's transition to Construct 3 was a major step forward for my project. I successfully migrated essential player mechanics and animations, resolved sprite-flipping issues, and improved the dashing feature. As I continue to make progress on my game, I'm excited to share that I've started live-streaming the development process on both YouTube and Twitch. This will give you, my followers, an opportunity to witness the game's evolution firsthand, ask questions, and provide valuable feedback. I believe that by engaging with the community in real-time, I can make this game even more enjoyable and memorable for everyone. So, don't miss out on the fun - follow me on YouTube and Twitch at @adrianrosariopr, and join me on this exciting journey as I bring my game to life!

P.S This game is still waiting to be graded for a college class so the build-in here is the Unity Build. I upload it temporarily to the Construct3 Arcade and once the grade is finished then I will move it back to itch, BUT just in case you want to check it out here is the link.
